SUMMARY
In 2022, I signed a lease for an apartment managed by SCIDpda in Seattle. At the time, I was working at an art studio just down the street, so the location was convenient for me. On August 8, 2022, I was arrested by a group who gained access to my secure building without a warrant or probable cause. The men who arrested me were hiding around the corner on my floor. I spent ten months in jail and was released in May 2023. This situation caused me to lose my job while incarcerated, as my employer could not hold the position open, and I fell behind on rent as a result.
While in jail, I was approached by an organization called Telecare Corp., who offered to pay off the back rent and assist with future payments. They assigned me a case manager in June 2023 to coordinate directly with my building manager and the company that would provide the funds. The case manager requested both an I-9 form and an invoice for the back rent from my building manager. By October 2023, after numerous emails from both myself and the case manager, we were informed that the building manager was unwilling to provide an invoice or accept payment. With no other option, the case was closed, and I continued making monthly payments from gig work.
In addition to the regular rent, I agreed to a payment plan that included rent plus an additional $250 each month. After I believed the balance was paid off, I received a notice stating that several months were still unpaid, with specific amounts listed. I saved all my money order receipts and was able to locate the receipts for those months, which I sent to the manager. She did not respond but instead placed a letter under my door indicating a rent increase. Since this is how leases are renewed with this company, I believed my lease had been renewed. Months later, however, I was unexpectedly served with court paperwork. This came just a few days after I was stopped on the street and interviewed by Kiro News about the safety and security in the neighborhood related to a drug bust. I told them it would be great if there was security at night. On June 3rd my full name and comments were published in the newspaper both in Chinese and English. On June 11th I was served paperwork by an attorney for a unlawful detainer after receiving only one notice between.
From my perspective, the court paperwork may have some so abruptly after seeing my name in the newspaper and connecting it to a manipulated, ancestry majorat in downtown Seattle, which would be in my right to have authority over.
NOTES
- Rent was paid on time prior to my arrest and after my arrest, I made regular monthly payments.
- The money order for what I thought was the remaining balance was returned to me for some reason.
